Power outages can be one of the most common reasons for sump pump breakdown; one that is out of your hands. Stay on top of your sump pump with the knowledge of these problems and how Cranney can help you fix them!

When the switch gets stuck in the "on" position, the pump won't shut itself down. This can lead to the motor burning outleaving you with two problems!

As a New England homeowner, you know how criticial it is to have a sump pump: It keeps your basement dry in the event of snowmelt or rainfall. Chances are, your home already has one installed to protect your basement or crawlsapce from flooding.

When the snow melts and it starts to rain, you probably think you're covered. The truth is, you won't really know if you're sump pump is ready for the season until it's been fully inspected.

Why? Because like any other of your household devices, sump pumps can break down and need repair. Unfortunately, sometimes this happens at the worst possible moment.

Sometimes, the equipment will just wear out over time. Best practice says to replace them every five to seven years, but that doesn't mean you should repair them in the meantime.

A pump that is too small for your home will have to work harder and longer to meet demand. A expert technician can come in and give you options for replacement if a repair just won't suffice.

There are three main components our technicians will inspect - the float switch, the intake valve, and the impeller. We will look for any possible issues and then clean them to ensure they are functioning normally. Once they confirm everything is working properly, they will clean the sump pump liner of any sediment.
If it's one of the chilly months of the year, we will inspct the line for freezing. Otherwise, we will just ensure that water flows freely without any blockages.
If you have a crawlspace, we will check the liner and any other components you may have installed there.
The goal of a routine maintenance visit is to ensure everything is working properly. If our technicians observe problems that could arise in the near future, they will inform you and also suggest ways to address these issues fast!

Why You Need Sump Pump Maintenance

One way to reduce the chance of your pump failing is with regular maintenance. At Cranney, we make it our top priority to ensure your basement or crawlspace stays dry. When we come for to preform maintenance, we will perform the following tasks:

Failed Impeller

When the impeller has broken down, water cannot be removed, continuing to accumulate in the pump until your basement is flooded.

Incorrect Installation

When a pump is improperly installed, the motor may have to work harder than it's supposed to and will burn out quickly.

Manufacturer Defects

As one of the least common problem we come across, it's important to note that sometimes the pump's design and default components can be the source of your troubles. Many times you won't notice it until it's too late. Our technicians are trained on these systems and will know right off the bat if there is a problem with any manufacturer.
